8 People Needed for America-in-Bloom Historical Skit on July 29

Did you know that Northfield's Central Park was once the focus of a MN Supreme Court decision?

On July 29, the America-in-Bloom/Northfield committee will present to national America-in-Bloom judges a reading of a skit written by Marie Gery telling the history of Central Park.

We need a cast of 7 plus a narrator. The time period and characters are below:

1) 1856: John and Ann North.

2) Controversy of late 1940s: Erling Johnson, George Zanmiller, Leal Headley

3) Controversy of early 1990s: Charlie Kyte and Christie Clarke

The skit will be presented in Central Park at 5:30 p.m. Contact Alice Thomas to get involved!

The America-in-Bloom/Northfield committee has been working all spring and summer in preparation for a visit of judges from America-in-Bloom/US on July 28th & 29th. Each year the national organization holds a contest in which cities of similar size compete in 8 categories: Floral Displays, Tidiness, Landscaped Areas, Urban Forestry, Community, Turf & Groundcovers, Environment Effort, and Heritage.

The purpose of the contest is two-fold: to celebrate and obtain affirmation of the assets of the city (by documenting and making people aware of those assets) and to obtain outside opinions of how we might improve in those eight categories (by obtaining perspectives of the judges - this year from NY and OK).

Thank you for your efforts to make this a reality.
