Photography Exhibition Closes July 3rd
Shots...an exhibition of photographic art
ArtOnWater Gallery, on S. Water Street in the raucous, raunchy westside of Downtown, presents, in its final days, an exhibition of photography by 4 local artists plus special guest artist, Gail Tang, through July 3rd.
The exhibition includes ' Beginnings..' a display of early photographs and the tools of the photographer; Scott Davis' digital images from a unique Northfield re-creation of Renoir's impressionist masterpiece which we re-named “Contentement sur la rivière Canot” ('Contentment on the Cannon River'); creations by professional photographer David Perez; and artist-retailer April Ripka's delightful experiment where 'organic paper meets computer technology'. Oh, and there is a collection of international snaps where the camera serves as 'memory machine'.
In her new works collection, Gail Tang, a graduate student in mathematics, uses digital photography to explore patterns and textures in the ordinary, and the connection between simplicity and complexity. In her cool colors set she teases us with 'Split' and 'Divided' and in the warm colors set, her shots from Firenze include 'Sopra' and 'Stadio' contrasting weathered marble statuary with the fresh colors of a wine and vegetable shop.
Gallery is open Wednesday until 9 pm and the show closes with our usual ChARTdonnay Closing Reception on Thursday from 3-9pm.

The Photos
Dean is being entirely too modest--he has some great stuff in the show himself! Recommended!
